Yep, you read that right the best coach the Huskies have had is out on his ass after his poor season last year.
OMAHA, Neb. – Washington has fired long-time coach Ken Knutson after 17 seasons with the program, several sources confirmed on Monday.
Knutson is the winningest coach in Washington history, but finished last season with a 25-30 record, 13-14 mark in Pac-10 play.
Though Knutson and the Huskies failed to make an NCAA regional berth the last few seasons, it’s no secret the Huskies have one of the worst facilities in the Pac-10. Whoever is the new coach at UW, there’s no question an upgraded facility must be in store. That’s of course, assuming the Huskies are serious about hiring a front-line coach.
Coaches we believe should be on Washington’s short list include Washington State’s Donnie Marbut, Gonzaga’s Mark Machtolf, San Diego assistant Eric Valenzuela, San Francisco’s Nino Giarratano and Cal State Fullerton’s Greg Bergeron.
